LaGuardia Community College is transitioning from Blackboard to Brightspace, a new learning management system designed to enhance your learning experience. This page provides key resources and tips to help you get started, navigate the platform, and succeed in your courses.

Welcome to Brightspace

In addition to the student checklist, follow the steps below to get started with Brightspace and make the most of your learning experience.

To begin using Brightspace, you will need to log in using your CUNYfirst credentials. Please note that if you are enrolled in courses for the semester, you may not have access to your classes in Brightspace until the course is set to active by your instructor.

If you are interested in learning more about Brightspace and how to use it for your courses, you can complete the Brightspace Basics for LaGuardia Students course. This course covers essential topics, including navigating Brightspace, creating course content, and assessing students.

  • Discussions
  • Discussion Forum (Category — no posts can be made at this level). Forums are not gradable — only the topics within the forums are gradable. This does not exist in Blackboard. The use of forums is meant to help organize categories for discussion and then broken down into topics.

Discussion Forum

Discussion Topic (within a forum) is the equivalent. This is normally where the the “question” or “gradable” component lives as the topic is associated with a grade item.

Discussion Thread (within a forum)

Discussion thread (within a topic) where your participants can post and reply.
